SCDSS Celebrates Child and Adult Care Food Program Week

March 9, 2023 - The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a federally-funded program operated by the South Carolina Department of Social Services’ (SCDSS) Division of Early Care and Education, plans to celebrate healthy food and nutrition during CACFP Week, March 13th-17th. The CACFP program strives to promote better nutrition in South Carolina by reimbursing child care centers, adult care centers, child care homes, afterschool programs, and emergency shelters that serve qualified healthy meals and snacks.

DSS Recognizes March as Social Work Month

March 3, 2023 - COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina Department of Social Services recognizes and celebrates March as Social Work Month in South Carolina. The national theme for this year’s observance, as created by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), is Social Work Breaks Barriers.

Infant in Spartanburg County Surrendered Under Safe Haven Act

February 23, 2023 – Officials with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law, the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, on Monday, February 20, 2023. The SC Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act provides a safe, legal option to surrender infants up to 60 days old, who have not been harmed, at designated locations.

SCDSS Announces New Anderson County Director

Columbia -The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) would like to announce Josie Jones as the new Anderson County DSS Director beginning Tuesday, January 17th. Ms. Jones has served as Spartanburg County Director since 2018 and will continue to do so on an interim basis until a new director is named.
