Columbia -The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) would like to announce Mr. Bran Turner as the new Midlands Region Director beginning Wednesday, August 2nd. Mr. Turner has served as the Director of Darlington County DSS since 2020.

SCDSS Continues Commitment to Serving Children and Families with Launch of MSW Scholar Program

Columbia, July 13, 2023- The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) is looking to recruit, retain, and promote a well-educated, well-trained team to work with children and families served by the state's child welfare system. The agency is accepting applications from current SCDSS Child Welfare professionals to be admitted to a newly launched program, which provides financial tuition assistance to select DSS professionals seeking a Master's in Social Work at the University of South Carolina or Winthrop University. Those professionals will need to commit to continue working with the children and families served by SCDSS in Child Welfare Services for a minimum of two years after graduation in exchange for tuition assistance.

Infant in Spartanburg County Surrendered Under Safe Haven Act

July 13, 2023 – Officials with Spartanburg Regional Medical Center recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law, the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, on Monday, July 11, 2023. The SC Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act provides a safe, legal option to surrender infants up to 60 days old at designated locations outlined by law.

SCDSS Announces New Berkeley County Director

Columbia – July 6, 2023 - The South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to announce Valerie Davis as the new Berkeley County DSS Director. Mrs. Davis began her new role on Monday, July 3rd and has been serving as the Interim Director for Berkeley County since January 2023.
