Infant Safely Surrendered in Lowcountry Under Safe Haven Act

August 29, 2023 – Officials with the Moncks Corner Fire Department recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law, the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, on Monday, August 28, 2023. The SC Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act provides a safe, legal option to surrender infants up to 60 days old at designated locations outlined by law.

Upcoming Changes to Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents (ABAWD) Requirements for SNAP Recipients

Under the current federal food stamp regulations, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility for recipients between the ages of 18 and 49 who are designated as Able-Bodied Adults without Dependents, or “ABAWD”, is limited to three months in a 36-month period unless the individual meets ABAWD work requirements or is considered exempt.

DSS Announces Latest Grant Program for Child Care Providers

August 9, 2023- The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) is offering a one-time Materials, Health & Safety Grant for child care providers. The grant may be used to purchase materials and support needed to help the operation of child care businesses and support classroom functionality.
