York County DSS recognizes Child Abuse Prevention Month

April 20th, 2022 – Governor Henry McMaster has declared April as “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in South Carolina. On April 7th, he was joined at the Governor’s Mansion by DSS State Director Michael Leach and other leaders to speak in solidarity against child abuse and neglect. The South Carolina Department of Social Services recognizes the importance of working together to strengthen families and to ensure they have what they need to not only survive but thrive.

Infant Surrendered Safely Under Safe Haven Act

April 12, 2022 – Officials with Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood County recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law, the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, on Sunday, April 10, 2022.

SCDSS Announces New Online Central Registry for Child Abuse and Neglect

April 1, 2022- SCDSS is proud to announce the launch of the state’s Online Central Registry and Database system. This is the check of the SC Child Abuse and Neglect Registry and Database for the purposes of employment as required by state statutes, individual agencies or businesses practices. The new online portal will launch on Monday, April 4th on the SCDSS website at dss.sc.gov.

SCDSS Announces New Saluda County Director

March 17, 2022 – The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) would like to announce Angela Erhardt as the new Saluda County DSS Director. She began her new position on Thursday, March 17th.

SCDSS Celebrates Child and Adult Care Food Program Week

Columbia, SC - The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), housed at the SC Department of Social Services, celebrates CACFP Week from March 13 through March 19. CACFP is a federally funded program that provides reimbursements to child care centers, adult care centers, child care homes, afterschool programs, and emergency shelters that serve nutritious meals and snacks.
