SC DSS Marks Child Abuse Prevention Month

Columbia, SC - April 5, 2018- Each April, the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS) joins Children’s Trust of South Carolina, the state’s affiliate organization for Prevent Child Abuse America, and other statewide and local leaders in acknowledging Child Abuse Prevention Month. In fiscal year 2017, there were 17,662 victims of child abuse and neglect in South Carolina. This public health issue has been linked to a wide range of costly medical, emotional, psychological and behavioral problems into adulthood.

SCDSS Names New Orangeburg County Director

March 21, 2018 – Officials with the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) recently named Brian Gotses as Orangeburg County Director. He started his new position on March 2, 2018.

Celebrating Child and Adult Care Food Program Week

March 9, 2018 – The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) recognizes March 11 through March 17 as CACFP Week. The federally funded program provides meal reimbursements to child and adult care centers, child care homes, afterschool programs and emergency shelters for serving nutritious snacks and meals.
