Disaster SNAP (DSNAP)

The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (DSNAP) provides temporary food assistance program in the form of a one-time payment to low-to-moderate households who lost income or sustained property damage following a declared disaster.


DSNAP operations for those affected by Hurricane Helene has officially ended. As of Friday, December 13, 2024, more than 109,000 individuals had been approved to receive D-SNAP benefits.

 

The South Carolina Department of Social Services facilitated DSNAP operations from November 11, 2024 – December 13, 2024, in 28 counties. Those counties included: Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union, and York counties and the Catawba Indian Nation.


DSNAP benefits issued in November or December 2024 will expire within nine (9) months of the date of issuance.


If you missed the DSNAP application period or still need additional food support, you can apply for SNAP benefits on the DSS Benefits Portal.

If you applied for DSNAP and do not agree with the decision made on your DSNAP application, you have a right to request a fair hearing. During the Fair Hearing, both you and DSS will have an opportunity to provide details regarding your DSNAP case. The Office of Administrative Hearings will provide a decision on your case. To request a Fair Hearing, please call 1-800-311-7220 or write to your local DSS office.

Do not wait more than 90 days from the date of your application to call or write DSS to request a Fair Hearing for your DSNAP. Tell DSS if you have special needs or if you need an interpreter or translated materials.
