 Infant Surrendered Safely Under Safe Haven Act

July 1, 2021 – Officials with Charleston County Sheriff’s Office recently accepted an infant surrendered under Daniel’s Law, The Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

The African American baby boy was born on June 11, 2021 and weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces and was 19.7 inches long.  The infant was safely surrendered at the Trident Medical Center Emergency Department. Under the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, Charleston County DSS took custody of the child.

A permanency planning hearing will be held virtually on August 12, 2021 at 3pm. For more information on the hearing, please contact the Charleston County DSS office at 843-953-9400 or the Charleston Clerk of Court office at 843-958-4400.

Editor’s note: This is the fifth Daniel’s Law baby surrendered in South Carolina during the 2021 calendar year.
