DSS Announces New Florence County Director
Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to announce Amanda Quinlan-Head as the new Florence County Director. She began her new position on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Mrs. Quinlan-Head began her career with SCDSS in 2003 in Clarendon County, working in Foster Care. She transferred to Pee Dee Adoptions in 2005 and continued working with foster children as an adoption specialist until she became a supervisor in 2008. As a supervisor, she oversaw adoption specialists and served as the post legal adoptions contact. She returned to Clarendon County in 2014 as a program coordinator over the Human Services and Adult Advocacy Programs until her promotion to Clarendon County director in 2019.
“I look forward to growing community partnerships, enhancing the professional development of all staff as we build a more compassionate, family first mentality at Florence County,” said Mrs. Quinlan-Head. “I have been blessed with leaders in my past who have encouraged, mentored, and coached me in my professional aspirations, and I want to be that for someone else as I take on my new role”.
Mrs. Quinlan-Head is a native of Florence, SC. She graduated from Francis Marion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology.
