Kinship Care Month Recognized in South Carolina

Sept. 1, 2021 – Governor Henry McMaster has declared September as Kinship Care Month in South Carolina. During this month, the South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to celebrate grandparents, aunts, uncles, relatives, and family friends who take in children who might otherwise go into foster care.

SC DSS Honors August Employees of the Month

August 19, 2021 -- The South Carolina Department of Social Services Employee of the Month program recognizes staff whose work exemplifies our core principles: Competence, Courage and Compassion.

August recognized as Child Support Awareness Month

August 9th, 2021 – The South Carolina Department of Social Services is recognizing August as Child Support Awareness Month. This month is to help inform the public about child support and the services that are available to assist families in South Carolina. This is also a time to celebrate families who make a positive impact on the health and financial well-being of their children.

SCDSS Announces New Calhoun County Director

July 26, 2021- The South Carolina Department of Social Services has named Theresa Spellman as the new Calhoun County DSS Director, effective July 19th, 2021. Ms. Spellman has been employed with DSS since 2006, starting as a Child Protective Services investigator. She later became certified as an Adult Protective Services case manager.

SCDSS Announces New Union County Director

July 16, 2021- The South Carolina Department of Social Services is pleased to announce Jesse Kaylor as the new Union County DSS Director, effective July 16, 2021. Mr. Kaylor has been employed with DSS since 2017.
