DSS Announces New Lexington County Director
Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to announce Jennifer W. Jeffcoat as the new Lexington County Director. She began her new position on Monday, May 19th.
Mrs. Jeffcoat began her career with the South Carolina Department of Social Services in 1997 in Fairfield County as an Eligibility Case Manager in Economic Services, then expanded her knowledge and skills into Child Welfare. As a Child Welfare Case Manager, she served roles in both Investigations and Family Preservation before becoming a Team Leader in July 2002. At that time, she supervised County Intake Operations and Adult Advocacy for Lexington County. In August 2014, she became the Program Coordinator for Investigations in Lexington County. She served in this role until moving into the Deputy County Director position in December 2018.
“Beginning my career with the South Carolina Department of Social Services after college, I never knew the impact that this work would have on my life,” said Mrs. Jeffcoat. “Through my 28 years, I can truly say that I have found my “why” and my purpose. The work we do is mission work to care, protect, and advocate for those who are unable to care for and protect themselves. I firmly believe that it does take a “village to raise a child,” and I have focused much of my career on building partnerships in the community to help support our vulnerable population. I am honored to have the opportunity to continue this work in my new role.”
Mrs. Jeffcoat is a native of Winnsboro, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Cognate in Social Work. She is married with two sons and resides in Lexington.
