DSS Announces New Edgefield County Director
April 16, 2025 - Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to announce Demeterius Brown as the new Edgefield County Director. She began her new position on Monday, March 17th.
Since October 2020, she has served at the South Carolina Department of Social Services, starting as an investigator in Aiken County before transitioning to a team leader role in Edgefield County. In this capacity, she managed investigations, family preservation, and foster care.
“I am excited to step into my new role as County Director for Edgefield County, said Mrs. Brown. “Throughout my journey, I have been guided by two powerful scriptures: Jeremiah 29:11 and John 15:5. These words have shaped my commitment to serving others with passion, humanity, and integrity. I look forward to creating meaningful solutions for Edgefield County. I am honored to take on this responsibility and look forward to working together to make a lasting impact.
Mrs. Brown holds degrees from Albany State University (B.A. in English Education), Troy University (M.Ed. in English Education), and Cambridge College (Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction). She is also part of the first cohort of Winthrop Scholars and will graduate in the summer of 2026 with a Master’s in Social Work.
Demeterius is a wife, a mother of three (ages 26, 24, and 3), and an author. Before the pandemic, she lived in China for three years, teaching high school English and writing.
