DSS Announces New Cherokee County Director
April 16, 2025 – The South Carolina Department of Social Services would like to announce Shyniece Anderson as the new Cherokee County DSS Director. Ms. Anderson began her role on Monday, August 19th.
Ms. Anderson began her career in social services in 2012 with the National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) in Columbus, Ohio. In 2015, she joined the Family Preservation team at the Spartanburg County DSS. Two years later, she was promoted to supervisor in Spartanburg County and was named Manager of the Quarter in 2020.
In 2021, Ms. Anderson began working in social services in North Carolina. She was named a supervisor at the Rutherford County DSS in 2024. Ms. Anderson also worked in Behavioral Health at Mission Hospital in North Carolina from 2023-2024.
“I have passionately advocated for children and families both in my professional and personal life,” said Ms. Anderson. “I believe it takes a village to strengthen the families in our communities. I plan to collaborate with partners in the community to help promote the safety, permanency, and well-being of children and vulnerable adults. I look forward to returning to SCDSS and being an agent of change to help strengthen families in our communities!”
Ms. Anderson graduated from Ohio Christian University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
She is a licensed foster parent in South Carolina and continues to accept placements on an emergency basis.
