Foster parents are a central partner in helping children reach their full potential.
Each year in South Carolina, children are placed into DSS custody because their parents are not able to provide the love and care they need. In some cases, parents have problems with substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence and/or a lack of parenting skills.
All these children have experienced trauma and need support to help them heal.
DSS appreciates the significant role of foster parents in helping families heal and reunite. When families cannot reunite, foster parents help the children transition to a new home and family.
