Prevention Organizations and Resources
Children’s Trust of South Carolina is a statewide organization which focuses on the prevention of child abuse and neglect through an “upstream approach” aimed at helping families, prior to crises or the occurrence of child maltreatment and neglect, to bring about positive, lasting change.
Children’s Trust focuses on proven protections such as building strong support systems and positive family bonding skills, connecting families to resources, understanding child development and helping children handle their feelings and emotions as well as the impact that adverse childhood experiences have on them and their families.
Through their work, Children’s Trust provides funding, resources, and training to help local program partners build strong families and positive childhoods.
The South Carolina Department of Mental Health has implemented a statewide mobile crisis program to enhance South Carolina’s crisis service array to include a statewide community crisis, on-site emergency psychiatric screening and assessment.
The goal of the program is to provide access and link patients to appropriate levels of care, avoid unnecessary hospitalization and incarceration, and to build partnerships with local law enforcement, hospitals, judges, and local mental health providers.
These mobile crisis services are available 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Services are typically provided within 60-minutes of contact with the CCRI team to meet the mental health needs of SC residents.

The South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SC DMH) and the South Carolina
Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) partnered with the
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to provide the Interactive Screening
Program - a safe and easy service that allows individuals to anonymously take a Self-Check
Questionnaire and connect with a professional counselor in the State of South Carolina who
can provide guidance, support, and resources for mental health and addiction services. This service is available to all residents of South Carolina 18 years of age or older.
