Statewide Foster Youth Graduation Event June 14th

 

Columbia, SC – The South Carolina Department of Social Services’ (SCDSS) Independent Living Program* will hold their 7th Annual Independent Living Program Graduation Celebration for youth in foster care or aftercare who have successfully completed an educational program during the 2018-19 school year and wish to be recognized for this achievement. Graduates include high school, 2 year or technical colleges and 4 year colleges or universities.

 

 

The event takes place Friday June 14, 2019, 11am-2:00pm at Seawell’s, 1125 Rosewood Drive, Columbia, SC 29201. The graduation celebration starts at 11:30 am, with graduate registration at 11:00 am. Select graduates, along with DSS staff are available for interviews before and after the ceremony.

* Independent Living Program provides an array of services to adolescents ages 14 to 21. The program provides the developmental skills necessary for foster adolescents to live healthy, productive, self-sufficient and responsible adult lives. The program's overall goal is to provide foster adolescents with opportunities to learn needed independent living skills and increase the likelihood of their successful transition from the foster care system.
