Notice of Abandonment - Newberry

November 28, 2016 - Newberry County Department of Social Services officials report that an infant was born on November 25, 2016, and abandoned at Newberry County Memorial Hospital in Newberry on November 26, 2016, and placed under the protection of Safe Haven with medical professionals. Upon the information and belief of the agency, the child falls under the jurisdiction for “Daniel’s Law,” the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act.

Baby Doe is an African American male that weighed 7 pounds and 7.1 ounces and was 19 inches in length at birth. The infant is now in DSS custody.

Under the Safe Haven Act, a permanency planning hearing will be held at the Newberry County Family Court, 1309 College St., Newberry, SC 29108, at 1:30 p.m. on January 25, 2017.

Any person wishing to assert parental rights regarding the infant must do so at this hearing.
