DSS Charges Rowan County, NC Woman with Food Stamp Fraud

May 12, 2026- On May 1, 2026, Special Agents of the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Office of Inspector General, arrested a North Carolina woman in connection with fraudulently receiving $36,971.00 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Chantel Donis, 35, was charged with one (1) count of Fraudulent Acquisition or Use of Food Stamps greater than $10,000. Donis, who is a resident of Salisbury, North Carolina, is accused of receiving SNAP benefits by fraudulently claiming she was a resident of South Carolina and failing to disclose her employment and income. She was booked at the York County Detention Center. 

The case will be prosecuted by the 16th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office. The related warrant can be found here.
