DSS Announces New Clarendon County Director

March 3, 2026 - The South Carolina Department of Social Services is pleased to announce Kiswana Brown as the new Clarendon County Director. She began her position on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Mrs. Brown began her DSS career in 2012 as a concurrent planning specialist through a grant-funded initiative. She brings extensive expertise in child welfare and human services, including foster care and adoptions, licensing foster homes, and managing group homes for adults and children in North Carolina. She also has experience working within Intensive Foster Care and Clinical Services (IFCCS) at DSS.

“None of us is exempt from hardship or challenges that occur in life,” said Mrs. Brown. “That’s why we should all lead and live a life steeped in compassion and understanding—and with that understanding, extend a hand that leads to healing, hope, and wholeness for the families we serve. I get to do this every day, and what a privilege and honor it is.”

Mrs. Brown was born and raised in Florence, SC. She graduated from Lake City High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Francis Marion University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Management and Leadership, with an anticipated completion date in 2026.
